The Mirror
This mirror is one of my Aunt Mary’s antique shopping finds. For as long as I can remember she has always had beautiful treasures sourced from her many trips to antique stores and auctions. Occasionally she’ll pass them on to me knowing I share an appreciation for these ornate pieces. I love fancy frames like this so when she offered it up I was so excited. I don’t have much blue in my house, but it seemed bright, cheery and fitting for this piece. It was in great condition, so I decided not to repaint the frame.
Unfortunately, I already have a number of mirrors in my house and don’t need another. What I did need was some sort of note center. So with a few coats of chalkboard spray paint, voila! Such an easy change and now I have an adorable chalkboard. I still kept one side as a mirror in case I ever change my mind, and used the opposite side for the chalkboard. It now hangs next to our kitchen table and gets updated with all sorts of lists.
If you’re planning to give it a try, here’s a bit about my process. I didn’t use a primer on this but it still worked beautifully. Maybe because it was a mirror? Either way, be sure to spray in a thin even layer to make sure you keep your chalkboard smooth. After a few coats have dried, take some chalk and color the surface area with the chalk sideways before writing on it. This is supposed to help make it easier to write on (and erase and repeat). Enjoy!
